28 Jun 11 Gotta luv refillable lighters!
Since I was a kid, one thing I’ve always loved was the smell of an oil lighter! Who’s with me? Long before I was a smoker, I used to just love when someone nearby would strike that flint wheel…mmmm, and I still do! The cool part is now I have my own. =)
Lets look at the practicality of a refillable lighter. First of all, you can consider it an honest investment. Since most of the parts are replaceable (providing you don’t lose the thing) it should last you quite a while! (I’ve attached a convenient diagram of the parts I found online, thanks google!) As you can see in the diagram the most commonly replaced parts (wick & flint) are relatively easy to access & replace. Although I gotta say, I’ve retired a few refillable lighters that developed bent hinges, and don’t get me started on the first time I attempted to replace the wick~~there’s a trick to that! Regardless of my personal lack of mechanical prowess, the refillable flip-top lighter is a pretty sound choice for a lighter. Well, and you do have to buy the lighter fluid before you can actually start using your lighter, but the bottle of fluid is cheap & it seems to last a really long time.
As a kid I always thought of these lighters as ‘biker-lighters’ mostly because all my uncles had their own special flip-top lighter, and all my uncles road Harleys~ergo biker lighter, hey what can I say, that’s how my 6 year old mind worked! Turns out there was a perfectly logical reason all my uncles had one; anyone care to guess? Yep~you got it, they’re notoriously wind-proof! =)
There are several other factors that keep this style of lighter as my #1 favorite, like how you can find them now-a-days in so many different styles. Personalized, decorated, you name it they’ve come out with it. I don’t think I can think of a better lighter to spend money on. I’ve found a great site that I personally like to shop through, they do wholesale lighters, but they don’t have a minimum order requirement, so it works pretty well for me.
